One of the vibrant new faces who joined our expanding team at Slater Byrne Recoveries this year is Michelle Millar. With over 25 years of debt collection expertise, Michelle shares a passion for turning challenges into triumphs and brings her global experience to the role.
Michelle’s long hands-on debt collection experience includes 3 years working as a hardship case manager, and 15 years of managing offshore credit collectors in the Philippines for a publicly listed Australian company. What began as a short-term opportunity while she temped for it during university has now become a thriving career spanning decades.
With her extensive background, she has sharpened her ability in navigating with ease and efficiency the complexities of risk management, regulatory integration, legal frameworks, and compliance. Michelle holds certifications in Skip Tracing and Certificate III in Investigative Services. These underscore her commitment to excellence in the debt collection industry.
“Balancing relationships and results, one account at a time,” is a quote that Michelle uses to best describe her role as an Account Manager. What sets her apart is her empathic approach and neutral communication style when dealing with debtors. She does this so they can relate to her and be smoothly responsive to her. This for her has resulted in faster and more effective resolution of her accounts. “I find that when debtors can relate to you, they are more likely to pick up the phone. That often results in accounts being paid in full quickly,” she shares.
Michelle’s professional ambitions are mainly fuelled by the results she gets from handling different debt cases. She still holds a passion for Skip Tracing, the art of finding elusive debtors, and hopes to continue to utilise this skill at Slater Byrne Recoveries.
An Adventurer Beyond Office Hours

When she’s not expertly managing cases or accounts, Michelle is out and chasing the sun. Literally! She loves travelling around Australia with her partner, along with their two beloved rescue dogs, and going to different places. Their gorgeous fur babies, which are 2 beautiful girls, Lola, a black border collie x kelpie, and Bille, a black and white German short haired pointer x border collie. In their spare time, Michelle and her Partner are renovating a bus in preparation for their next big adventures in Australia.
Michelle equally loves photography, and she has sold some of the images she took to Getty and Shutterstock. Some of her work is pictured below:

When asked about her most unforgettable experience in her travels, she said it was a trip to the Philippines in 2015. While chasing waterfalls there, Michelle slipped and almost severed her foot. This was an accident requiring her to be flown home and undergo nine months of rehabilitation. But as a true adventurous woman as she is, she still chases waterfalls today and is very much willing to visit back the Philippines.
“The Philippines will always have a special place in my heart. The people, the shopping, and of course, the best mangoes in the world,” she adds.
Thriving in her position at Slater Byrne Recoveries
For Michelle, her favourite part of her role in Slater Byrne is the people she works with. “I work within a fantastic group of team players, who are always happy to help each other and support each other’s ideas. There’s lots of banter, funny moments, and friendly competitiveness that keep us motivated here.”
Michelle doesn’t let herself get stressed easily and when dealing with tough calls with debtors, she just steps away for a bit, makes some coffee, and then returns with much better focus to aim for resolution.
“Michelle has been a great addition to the Slater Byrne team. She has an abundance of determination mixed with a friendly attitude. Clients tend to get on very well with Michelle, evidenced by the reviews left by our clients regarding her expertise,” Slater Byrne Recoveries National Head of Sales, Liam White puts it.
With her adventurous heart and calm demeanour, Michelle Millar embodies the exact kind of professional Slater Byrne Recoveries is proud to have in our team!
