Some of the team at Slater Byrne paid a visit to the Salvation Army Headquarters in Surry Hills in June to volunteer for the day. We took part in their Street Level initiative, preparing and cooking meals for those who have fallen on tougher times. This took place at their inner city site where many relentless volunteers gather to provide food and shelter to dozens of homeless people. They have a charity shop on site, a large industrial kitchen and a community hall where they provide multiple services.
The work that these volunteers do daily is quite extraordinary. Volunteering even once can make a big difference to Charites such as the Salvos. We met some very interesting characters and had lots of fun. We will be taking part in their volunteer program on a regular basis.
