Slater Byrne recently sponsored a team at the Randwick City Football Gala day. The annual event, which was held at the Heffron Synthetic Field, brought together all members of the local community to celebrate diversity, inclusiveness, and sportsmanship. The Randwick City Football Club spearheads the event and uses it as a fundraiser for their Purple Hearts initiative, which is open to both juniors and seniors with different types of disability.
More than 200 people attended the event and cheered for all teams as they played a friendly football tournament. Even local politicians Bruce Notley-Smith and Matt Thistlethwaite were there to support this fantastic initiative.
The tournament was played by several teams that included a good mix of 40s master players and Purple Hearts teams of disabled young women and men. Of course, we couldn’t let our guys here at Slater Byrne miss out on all the fun. They were there on the day, eager to join the game.

Slater Byrne made it to the Final on the day and just lost out to Kickoff Kings. But the day was still very enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved. We’re extremely happy and proud to have been part of such an event, and we look forward to the next one!
